I usually keep my mouth shut IRL because I know most people are so propagandized, but every now and then someone will say something just totally disconnected from reality.
Usually if you just ask someone why they think that or where they got it from they will struggle a bit, but I’ve found they then usually double down and get mad that you questioned their worldview.

Liberals here in Norway where I live are just as insufferable (if not worse) because they constantly praise Norway like it is some utopia and that we should be eternally thankful to live here. As for the smugness and pettiness, I’m not sure what its origin is, probably the extreme individualism in the west combined with extreme political division. Another problem of a western style democracy is that both sides (despite being politically almost identical when in power) always become so divided over time, developing complete hatred and lack of respect for each other, and of course thinking the other side is incredibly dumb. So you effectively have a society where both halves think the other half is dumb, so 100% of the population think 50% of the population is moronic. A sort of smugness develops when you consider yourself to be superior to a massive 50% of people around you, especially with social media and how everyone kind of congregates into their ecochambers of calling the other side dumb.
This obviously doesnt happen in one party states, even if you have a 5% minority who hate the party and government, thats 5% hating 95% and 95% hating 5%, you wont feel like a superior god if you only think 5% of people are dumb.
Im sure theres other factors, like a general social degredation of respect for other people, i suppose the boomers are right about that. Somehow we’ve managed to increase tolerance while decreasing respect. Cancel culture is another ridiculous thing, dont take that in the wrong way, but the idea that you can hate and scrub out a persons entire career because of one single point you disagree with, one ancient tweet, etc, is actually really weird. I would say that is true. I am a white male foreigner in China, and at the risk of being called a sexpat, i date women. (I’m human, i’m not too young and i want something serious) You know what i hate? Female Chinese liberals sucking up to the west who hate China, yet theyre the ones who primarily want to date me. I usually end up arguing with with them, many of them havent even been to the west, and the ones who did only experienced a relaxed life as a student. I can spot them easily now, i mean literally, they dress differently and use western style makeup, plus they prefer to talk english more than chinese, some of them even forget chinese! They hate China, they complain about China, but ultimately, every time, it comes down to them having a poor relationship with their parents and family, which they unknowingly project onto China itself. They will begrudgingly admit that their lives are really easy and convenient in China, but then still complain about some vague lack of freedom, despite them doing everything they want to do… Their parents made them study a degree they didnt like, so they blame the Chinese government. That’s liberal brainwashing i guess.

I have absolutely no desire to date a western liberal girl in China and a non-liberal western woman in China is the rarest thing in the world. I am planning on staying in China, i also have no desire to return back to the west and experience fascism and probably get drafted into some crappy war or shot against a wall for being a commie. I dont need a chance to get out of China, it took me over a year to get in. Trust me bro, most foreigners in China are not pro CCP, they live in weird little bubbles judging everybody while enjoying the benefits of the country, i think i despise them more than liberals back home sometimes. Anyway i cant stand them, male or female. The other non-western foreigners here are generally better, but theyre so rare, especially post-covid, so its probably going to have to be a local.

I guess if you can find one who has a genuine interest in China and show her more of it you could work up a relationship, don’t be needy or insecure, and don’t be chauvnistic or judgemental, western women generally think all non-western men are sexist and will be looking out for anything like that. Try going to some museums or hiking, etc. If they’ve moved to China they’re typically the adventurous sort so dont make a boring date.

Every time they align themselves with the state line, (or in casual matters, conforming to “the trend”, the “leading expert”, the newest thing), they are showered with positive reinforcement on how that makes them moral/smart/individualistic/cool. It’s by design.
