I’ve observed a connection between lovers of computer languages, and lovers of human languages.

If you are interested in coding or linguistics, are you interested in both or just one of of the two? If only one interests you, which one and why? If both interest you, do they seem related to one another?

In my teens, I wanted to be a linguist. I tried learning several languages - Greek, Arabic, German and Latin. Greek because I was living in Cyprus, Arabic because mum could speak it, the others because I could find books on them.

I gave up when I came across irregular verbs and realised they weren’t logical.

Then I started coding and learned a few computer languages - they were logical, they made sense to me. I learned C, C++, Pascal, Modula II, Fortran, PL/9, Span, BLISS, C#, Python, Lua… I used to know some assembly language (6800, 6809, 68000, 6502, Z80, ARM).
