  • I’m a communist and a Marxist of the Marx variety. I like to read Marx and I think he’s pretty much right. I’ve read a few of Lenin’s books as well and while I definitely disagree with him on some important points, he’s overall not awful. Definitely not a Stalin fan though, it feels like where Lenin interprets Marx’s work differently from me in some places, Stalin just absolutely butchers it. Some on the left might call me a leftcom or an “ultra” but I don’t really agree with that (especially since I haven’t read any leftcom theorists).

  • You definitely have a point when it comes to the sway of bigger countries when it comes to which country players with multiple eligibilities choose, and a lot of the French players are indeed eligible to play for other countries, but I’d be mindful about saying that the team was ‘basically all made up of players from its colonies and not France’. It’s quite reminiscent of some reactionary talking points, and it’s also just not entirely true, since all but two of the players in last year’s World Cup squad were literally born in France.

  • I could maybe get it if the teams actually had ties to the cities they’re in, but trading players between teams baffles me.

I think this is probably part of why the only time I follow football is when it’s the World Cup or the Euros or something with the national teams like that. Obviously I’m not super into the nationalism aspect of it all, but I guess I just find the concept of managers having to kinda just work with what they’ve got more appealing than rich clubs just buying up most of the best players.

  • Paris honestly has never struck me as the nicest city, but it’s really big and it really feels like there’s an unlimited amount of stuff to do there so I wouldn’t mind going back.

I also found Avignon to be really nice and very pretty (at least in the historic centre which I didn’t really end up leaving since I was only there a short time).

Strasbourg was also quite nice and I actually thought about studying there for university (obviously my main reason for considering it was related to the university and programme, but my impression of the city was definitely a factor).

Haven’t really been too many places outside of France, but I was in Utrecht for a few hours (which idk if even really counts as ‘travelling to’ and it definitely felt like someplace I’d like to return to and it felt a bit more chill compared to Amsterdam which seemed a bit more chaotic.
