Ted Kaczynski, known as the Unabomber, was found dead in his prison cell Saturday morning, according to a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson. He was 81.
Not endorsing but putting in perspective, that symbol of domestic terrorism killed less people in 20 years than police in one day.
Just to be pedantic, it’s fewer - not less. You use less for things that you can’t count.
Yeah i know, it’s one of those words in english i still have problems with.
That’s an asinine comparison. One person didn’t kill as many people as a larger group? You could state the same thing in many ways depending on the “point” you want to make.
The only asinine thing here is that US police killed killed at least 1176 people just in 2022, but somewhat is not considered the symbol of domestic terrorism.
And i won’t even start about what US military do outside of US.
Yes, and while that is terrible it is a completely separate issue not related to the Unabomber. Unless the point you are trying to make is, that we should have let a convicted terrorist go until he killed at least as many people as the US police.
I think the point is that he’s a “symbol” of domestic terror in a way that is disproportionate to his crimes and importance due to being pretty isolated, while death squads and terrorist organizations that act as extensions of the state are not regarded with the negativity they really merit.
It’s not a great comparison, but there’s not nothing there.
Yeah it’s that. He’s being made into some icon of evil (i even heard that every now and then in Poland!) and he’s a pretty small deal even compared to dozens of mass shooters which goes basically unnoticed and completely normalised. Not to mention to the “land of the free” ruling class enforcers.
TIL Ted Kaczynksi was still alive (up until recently)
Honestly I thought he had died like 20 years ago
Remembering back to a time when killing three people was a big fucking deal.
I’ll say what we’re all thinking - could transition have saved her?
Not quite sure I was thinking it, but it’s a thread to pull for sure. Could have maybe saved the 3 dead and 23 injured as well.
Trans girls with the time machine:
wut?
“In the psychiatric evaluation, Johnson reveals that Kaczynski had persistent and intense sexual fantasies about being a woman. While he was a graduate student at the University of Michigan in 1967, he went to a psychiatrist to discuss his wishes for a sex change operation. But in the waiting room, he decided he could not go forward. Instead, he told the psychiatrist he was depressed about the possibility of being drafted.”
Heard this earlier today and had to make the joke. Kind of tragic…
I am a bit surprised he lasted this long all things considered. He has clearly struggled with his mental health this whole time.
I guarantee this world is better off with you in it (especially if you are a beehaw user).
There are times and places for guerilla marketing, and embedded in a “don’t commit suicide” message is one that I would argue falls outside of that set.
I didn’t even see it on my initial read-through of the comment. Quite the whiplash from “how wholesome!” To “wow, partisan much?”
I’m assuming that they just didn’t think about the implications and that it was a case of “should’ve vetted that one more time before posting,” but yeah. Yikes.
I will admit it made me laugh tho
It’s more my confusion about the way this platform works lol I wasn’t suggesting or advertising, I thought it was a post only beehaw users would see

Sad how right he was in his beliefs but how wrong he was in his actions.
See you space cowboy…
And nothing of value was lost.
I watched a b-movie documentation kind of about him recently. Wasn’t the best but learned some things that it didn’t know.
An end of an era that quite a few won’t be miss.
I’ve read everything he’s ever written. A real genius, who was able to look beyond many of our modern, pointless issues and understand the real long term threat of modernization.
RIP to a real one.
I may disagree with his chosen methods, but his Industrial Society and Its Future is on point.
