Especially with how much traffic these sites are generating right now, it can take several hours to update to an actual subscription. In the meantime, you should still see posts on your feed, but it will be a while before the Fediverse at large recognizes your subscription.
In other words, its just taking a while for your data to traverse the series of tubes because they’re clogged with so many people accessing the sites all at once. The wave of reddit refugees has significantly slowed down each site as well as their ability to federate data amongst each other quickly.
