As you know, part of the protest includes us users not accessing Reddit at all.

My curiosity got me and I opened r/all.

Here’s a screenshot, so you don’t have to open Reddit.

Not surprised by League of Legends fans acting like everything is fine with a shit company they happen to use a product from.

Maaan, as a frequent League player and LoL esports viewer, I am so mad at that subreddit’s mods for not even bringing up the blackout to the userbase. At least the Valorant and it’s competitive subs went dark, the League community gives 0 fucks and will keep posting 100 complaints a day about how x is overpowered, or Riot are hypocrites for having gay characters or something.

Sorry for the mini rant. I hope we get a LoL (or at least an esports) community here on Lemmy so I never have to go back there again.

Isn’t the league sub in the pocket of riot? Makes sense that corporate wouldn’t take part in the protestå

More or less. It’s not even a good place for discussion. It’s like 99% just eSports news.

Honestly this The Game used to be healthier and was much fun back when it wasnt centred around eSport.

na the LoL sub is actually owned by riot (which would be a violation of the reddit terms of service) but everyone just goes along with it.

The mod team is majority riot sock puppets.

Good question! Riot games has a history of being a toxic work environment, from the early days, but if you search for “riot games harassment”, you can find many examples of the entire company not being worth spending money or time on, despite perhaps making progress the past couple years in the bottom rings of the company.

Here’s one article that summarizes my feelings: https://www.wired.com/story/riot-games-ceo-culture-complaints/

The warhammer subreddit I frequent was making fun of the blackout and was questioning who even used 3rd party apps

Thank you! I was curious but I wasn’t going to give them a single page view during blackout. Honestly I doubt I will give them any after 30th unless they back down on the API changes. Crazy thing is if they had given 90 days warning for devs to adapt I’d have happily paid a sub to Apollo. Now they don’t get anything from me.

I’m amazed that r/programming is still private seeing as spez is literally one of the mods there

If he wants he can probably even have subs unprivated that he doesn’t moderate. But that would just increase the backlash.

It’s been like this all day, great stuff! I just wish the subreddits that are live would go private too. Mind you, if 3rd party apps stay then lemmy might lose some users, much easier to go back to something you know

Yeah me too, there’s smaller subreddits I follow that I will genuinely miss but I won’t use the official Reddit app, not when I’ve used better apps that they have shut down

It would’ve been amazing if existing apps (Apollo) redeveloped their app to work with Lemmy instead. This would’ve dented reddits userbase for sure
