I don’t mean to be pessimistic, bit since most subreddits are only going dark for a couple days, the site will basically be back to normal soon. I wonder how many users here are only here because of temporary outrage and not because they actually prefer Lemmy. I’m curious about people’s outlook on this situation.

Edit: Wow this blew up!
Edit 2: Thanks for the gold kind stranger!
Edit 3: RIP my inbox! I can’t believe this made /r/all!
Edit 4: We did it Reddit! Lemmy!
Honestly, for the last couple of years I haven’t really been feeling reddit. It feels more like Instagram or TikTok than ever before.
Previously on reddit, I could go in the comments and read some proper discussion, now every other comment is a dumb one liner trying to get in as early as possible so they can get lots of upvotes. Whenever I find any good discussion it’s usually on the smaller subreddits, and lemmy just gives me that feeling.
Like look at this comment section, no overplayed one liners or jokes, I don’t feel like I’m watching the same conversation play over and over again
So anyway back to the point, I don’t think many people will stay here, infact most people won’t. Sure there will be some initial resistance to people moving to reddit, but eventually people will go back to reddit except for a small minority of old users and open source enthusiasts.
As for me personally, I think I’ll spend most of my time here, but occasionally I’ll browse my favorite (non discussion focused) communities on reddit like r/calamariRaceTeam or r/motorcycles.
But really, the main reason I’ll have the app is for when I want to beat off, until they ban NSFW…
NSFW looks like it’s going away / heavily restricted starting July 5th
