IT WAS “NAIVE” to think that vaccines would be enough to prevent the spread of Covid-19, according to a member of NPHET.

“I think we all thought that when we saw the effectiveness of the vaccines that we’d be in a better position, and maybe that was a little bit, I suppose, naive if we look back on it,” Dr de Gascun told broadcaster Anton Savage this morning.

This coming from a very respected expert on covid. He is only now realising this.

Last year and this year, while the whole world was talking about all the different ways to combat covid, most of the experts have been fixated on vaccines. “We’ll just maintain a lockdown while we wait for a vaccine” has been the mantra among the worst of these people.

This is why the world is such a mess. The wrong people are in these jobs.

You have to appreciate that he can admit his mistake. That means he’s capable of learning, so someday he can be a competent policy-maker. But seriously, his thinking is so poor, he has a lot to learn.

People are also wearing masks, don’t have mass gatherings, many still work form home. All very potent measures against COVID. At some point we will all get the virus, but it’s best to get the virus while being vaccinated and also while the hospitals aren’t overcrowded.

The measures are also way lighter than a couple of months ago, and more people are getting infected. So we are slowly on the way. If more people would be vaccinated we could have even more freedoms while keeping the infection rate at an acceptable level.

    What do you suggest?

Well, if this comforts you, there are a few antivirals currently undergoing trials.
