If public transportation was handled better, many would be fine with taking the bus or subways. Atlanta offers free WiFi, for example, in their buses - not sure about bus stations or subways, though. In NYC, before Guiliani cleaned up the city, the smell of urine in Manhattan subways was so strong and wretched that I’d often walk 30 blocks before taking the subway. The drunk homeless would sleep on the bus bench that were covered and then pee on themselves and the benches in their sleep. There need to be more strict, customer-friendly rules for public transport. If a guy sits in front of me and starts masturbating, for example (it happens often enough in NYC), I need to feel assured that there is a safe, quick, easy way for me to get him arrested. I would guess Columbus public transportation isn’t great, either…or that suburban waiting areas for buses to the city are either hard to find, hard to find out about, or feel unsafe, uninviting. Its hard to tackle one area without considering many others.
