Awesome short video from Cuba on the day of local elections. Perfect to share with friends who can’t get past cold war propaganda that Cuba has no democracy.
I attended this talk whereby the researcher, working with local Cuban academics to improve living spaces in Cuba, mentioned how in their experience the locals are very much involved in the decision-making process of their local neighbourhood (and politics generally), which I found completely stark to many bourgeois capitalist democracies we have today.
And this assessment seems to be reflected in the video. (Unsurprisingly.)
there’s a podcast called this is hell, and around the start of the covid pandemic they interviewed an academic about cuba’s health care system and socialist health care generally. She talked about how in Cuba they would go to different neighborhoods and see what problems people were facing, and fix them. I couldn’t imagine that happening in the US
if business and industrial dinasties can’t define the results in closed doors in a country club, it’s not troo democracy!
