Reminder that Christianity as a religion is almost obsessed with a single man’s human sacrifice, the cross he was sacrificed on is literally the universal symbol for the entire faith.

      • There was a joke about biblical scale hangover they had:

Jesus comes to the last supper and sees apocalyptic party scene: drunk apostles, music, wine, drugs, girls.

He shakes Peter: “What is going on here? Where did you even get money for that?”

Peter: “Dunno. Judas sold something i think”

It’s also a display of Western supremacy to the max. It were the Europeans that brought civilization to the Americas, freeing them from their barbaric rituals.

Completely ignoring that entire complex empires already existed on the continents. Empires that were genocided or enslaved.

Interestingly enough Christians are not inocent when it comes to human sacrifice. There are instances of burying people in the foundation of new churchs. Also Gideon sacrifices his daughter to God in Judges. 🤷‍♂️

Beyond all that. Sacrificing colonizers to Xipe Totec, or whomever, is an objectively good thing.

    • Also sit and think for a while what had to be origins of communion. You know, literally eating human flesh and drinking human blood, as dogma require some denominations to believe.

I have seen human sacrifice rituals before every sporting event in America. Here is this troop that got their leg blown off to have Raytheon stock go up, now enjoy the Lakers game everyone.

Exactly. This entire country is the epitome of human sacrifice, except instead of doing it for religious purposes to colonizers, they do it for capital.

Outside of pure mathematics, I cannot think of two things so absolutely mutually exclusive as the Catholic Church and respect for human life

Endless testimonies . … prove the mild and pacific temperament of the natives…. But our work was to exasperate, ravage, kill, mangle and destroy…

And the Christians, with their horses and swords and pikes began to carry out massacres and strange cruelties against them. They attacked the towns and spared neither the children nor the aged nor pregnant women nor women in childbed, not only stabbing them and dismembering them but cutting them to pieces as if dealing with sheep in the slaughter house. They laid bets as to who, with one stroke of the sword, could split a man in two or could cut off his head or spill out his entrails with a single stroke of the pike. They took infants from their mothers’ breasts, snatching them by the legs and pitching them head first against the crags or snatched them by the arms and threw them into the rivers, roaring with laughter and saying as the babies fell into the water, “Boil there, you offspring of the devil!” Other infants they put to the sword along with their mothers and anyone else who happened to be nearby. They made some low wide gallows on which the hanged victim’s feet almost touched the ground, stringing up their victims in lots of thirteen, in memory of Our Redeemer and His twelve Apostles, then set burning wood at their feet and thus burned them alive. To others they attached straw or wrapped their whole bodies in straw and set them afire. With still others, all those they wanted to capture alive, they cut off their hands and hung them round the victim’s neck, saying, “Go now, carry the message,” meaning, Take the news to the Indians who have fled to the mountains. They usually dealt with the chieftains and nobles in the following way: they made a grid of rods which they placed on forked sticks, then lashed the victims to the grid and lighted a smoldering fire underneath, so that little by little, as those captives screamed in despair and torment, their souls would leave them….

“Enough beating around the bush! We’re replacing it with straight up genocide and ethnic cleansing!”

Also, they latched on to the human sacrifice thing and blew up the scale of it for propaganda, a la “look how savage these people are”. IIRC to this day it’s unclear just how often it actually happened because all the surviving records are tainted with colonial bullshit.

This is abt the Aztecs but it’s worth noting that info relating to human sacrifice in Incan society is lacking as fuck and based largely on circumstantial instances of mummies found on frozen mountaintops and shit. Talk to descendants of the Incans in Peru and they’ll tell you it’s western horseshit, but the narrative is more important than the truth or indigenous histories of their own peoples when it comes to colonizer anthropology

I’ve never heard about Incas practicing human sacrifice. Aztecs - sure. Mayans maybe a couple of times, but not Incas.

It’s less touted than Aztecs and Mayans, but it was definitely taught in Amerikab schools when I was younger and I’ve heard the claims semi-recently from people I know who should definitely know better. There are ofc also just uneducated westerners who lump them all together under the banner of indigeneity. I spoke to many indigenous people in Peru who were tired of having Westerners assume their ancestors practiced human sacrifice, is my experience w/ it.
