Im iffy on that one, US actually was making moves to invade under Trump it was I believe when Russia sent in weapons and jets and made it clear if they attacked Venezuela Russia would come to it’s aid. But then again, would the US miss an opportunity to strike while Russia is busy in Ukraine? Just seems like such a stupid fucking move, truly would launch us directly into a world war in both Europe and south America and would extend into who knows how many proxy wars and could end in nuclear winter.

They actually did try to [assassinate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Gideon_(2020)#:~:text=Operation Gideon (Spanish%3A Operación Gedeón,Maduro from office in Venezuela.) Nicolas Maduro, using the old trick of “hire civilian contractors and ex-military personnel so that you have plausible deniability.” It failed, rather hilariously, because whoever was in charge of planning and security didn’t seem to realize that airsoft guns aren’t real weapons, and that if you’re planning a super-secret military operation, you probably shouldn’t post details of it on twitter.

Wasn’t there also an attempt with a grenade launcher or something like that as well? Hard to keep track of US sponsored coups/assassinations in latin America but I remember there being some close call with a grenade launcher, perhaps it was of the one’s on Castro or Chavez.

That sounds familiar. With Castro, the CIA basically tried everything and failed, to the point where it got pretty cartoonish: exploding cigars, female assassins whom Fidel ended up seducing, etc.

Well there’s always a coup option. Didn’t work the first time with Guaido, but there were news about Colombia offering their support. And the oil needs to come from somewhere
