The things people flush is insane. It is a solvable engineering problem though.
Just get a bidet. More effective than wet wipes with none of the environmental clusterfuck.
Lol true. I would hope that wet wipes are not being used to wipe asses but I was referring to civil engineering: removing solids from wastewater is possible. It says more about UK civil engineers than it does about careless citizens.
Yeah it’s mind boggling how in the 21st century, a “developed” country is still dumping solids from sewers.
Like, if they’re letting plastic sheets through, it’s almost certain that the other harmful parts of sewage, namely bacteria and over saturation of nutrients, are definitely not being adequately removed. You think London, which had countless bacterial epidemics throughout history due to untreated sewage in water ways, would be a little more careful.
And they dunk on India for all the parasites in Ganges.

But touching buttholes makes Jesus cry.
I just noticed the graphic “4 shape of river is permanently altered”. Who wants to take bets that the only reason they care is because it affects some asshole’s riverfront property?
Don’t forget 'bout the huge sewer backups.
They’re “lovingly” called fatbergs by sewer workers.

there is another article about wet wipes specifically in the thames here https://theconversation.com/microplastic-pollution-and-wet-wipe-reefs-are-changing-the-river-thames-ecosystem-119400
