I prefer “better red than dead”. Yes, this is a real phrase, coined by the soviet ambassador to China in the 1980s, Oleg Troyanovsky. XD

No lie this meme really cheered me up today. I worked with a coworker who was a year younger than me, fun and crazy latchkey kid. He fucked up his life and went to the Army. His Snapchat story today was basically him saying that his drill sergeant says get ready to kill Chinese someday soon and the whole better Dead than Red bullshit. Knowing that these class traitors are fulfilling their own meme has me sent😂

how do we know the reports are accurate?

i’m not saying they are or aren’t, just asking. at this point knowing all i know about the us government it’s not like i trust them either. it doesn’t seem like a crazy idea that any country might inaccurately report their death tolls.

and again, not taking sides here - afaik china was pro-mask before covid, so that could contribute to lower deaths. it also sounds like they were a lot stricter about getting this under control than a lot of places.

edit: downvoting someone trying to get educated by some place other than the msm. you’re really going to bring about that red wave by being shitty to people lol

Btw. USA number is 100% not true since they offcially not require reporting covid deaths since 2 months ago i think. Assuming they were accurate before, the lack of proper research and statistics of the issue was problematic since the beginning. The number of deaths is certainly higher.

Why would a country lie with large numbers about the amount of deaths that have occurred in the country? To play “I killed the most”?

5,000 is a pretty low number and is a nice way to lie and say “I killed the least.”

I mean sure I don think any set of numbers would 100% accurate, but that much of a difference really goes to show the systems. China has a state that will mobilize to take action for it’s people, while the US has corporations and bureaucracy. More over it’s more the environment the people live in. In China, people are less alienated so they actually care about one another, while in the US they don’t. In the States people antigov (and not in the based way sadly) and get all flustered with putting on a fucking mask. Not to mention to save face with the US’s propped up economy, corporations threw human beings into the fire as essential workers.

TLDR: China’s low numbers arent the jaw dropping ones, It the US’s for how many people can die without hesitation.

most of what I know about chinese culture is my friends from high school who had abusive family members that put ridiculously high expectations on them (note that chinese students were a majority in my school). it sounds like the government might be doing a better job than our government. as far as caring about one another, that i don’t know. don’t have enough info on the topic other than friends from high school, so i can’t say anything there.

i know the US is shit. i’m disabled and cannot work and i’m constantly abused by everyone, government and citizens alike. just makes my already shit mental health worse and makes me way more of a misanthropist. i trust no one and my default is hate. of course i don’t go out of my way to hurt people, and i do help people, but given the choice i’d much rather be left alone. i’ve come to the conclusion that most humans are inherently evil.

Woah comrade don’t worry, no malice here, at least from me.

Now you say you’re disabled, is physical or mental? Just understanding where your difficulties come from.

Now I have never been in the shoes of a pessimist so forgive me, (I actually have too much faith in people from time to time) but do some sexy DiaMat and try to figure out WHY you think this way. You wanting to be left alone could be some alienation under capitalism ( I am a zoomer who didnt have a phone in his developmental years so boy am I a weird individual, though the effect seems to be extra social for me, like a puppy lol)

You probably need a real life therapist, but tbh Marxism gives a weird amount of confidence and objectivity. Hope you will do better, down votes are just people disagreeing, and the Reddit format makes it bring back some PTSD. There’s a reason why Lemmy bans social nuisances.

          Carry on comrade.

also forgive me, i’m tired, defensive, and impulsive right now but yes, i agree that the US number is awful. but i thought other countries had numbers more consistent with the US than China. and a lot of other countries, i believe, took the virus WAY more seriously than the US. it’s not a US vs. China thing for me really, it’s more of “wow, that’s a reaaaaalllly low number compared to everyone”.

Again just the way the government and economy is organized, youll see Cuba and Vietnam handle it well, while other US lapdogs trend worse the more “free” they become.

The numbers come from internacional neutral organizations that personally checked it on China (world bank, united nations, etc) so unless those organisations are china owned now, i dont think they would have any reasons to lie. Also even western journals have admited that corona deaths on china are extremelly low, i doubt the US journals that get their info straight from washington would say that china is doing miles better at the covid situation then literally everyone, unless it is such an big and unchangeable truth you literally cant hide. Also if it isnt that the real number, then what is then? Why china would not be honest about someting you literally cant hide up? If they where not succesfull on controlling the virus immediatly when it beggined, millions would be dead right now. Also everyone was able to see the massive lockdowns and the ruthless aproach of the goverment whent it comes to disease outbreaks, just some week agos an entire city with millions of people got quarentined over half a dozen cases.

This lets to the conclusion, yes, the death numbers send by the chinese goverment are real.
