They said Turkey could be problematic, but I must say I wasn’t expecting a bait and switch in to extortion. Anyone have any links to learn more about NATO-Turkey relationship and Turkey-Sweden relationship? Even anti-Erdogan Turkish people seem to be behind Erdogan’s decision here.

There is more or less unanimous support for this veto in Turkey, even among rabid anti-Erdoğan folks. Erdoğan himself was reluctant to do it, but yielded to public pressure.

The Turkish public opinion is that since EU didn’t let Turkey join, Turkey should not let any EU nations join NATO.

The fact that nobody actually consulted with Turkey before making all the proclamations clearly demonstrates that NATO leadership are absolute and utter idiots. The fact that people are surprised that Erdogan is doing what Erdogan has a long history of doing is rather hilarious.

This is incorrect, a month prior Turkey’s foreign minister and Erdogan had stated they actually do not want to be in the way and support us, hence the bait and switch. The 180 came hours after our prime minister and president made their stance clear.
