Well yeah its pretty barebone. Old school coding. Huge advantage in speed compared to websites like reddit which i feel is always on the verge of crashing my browser. Didnt they say they would never redesign the site ? Lol
The reddit site somehow manages to use 91% of my 11th gen i7 just to open and close a post. Why do people put up with this idiocy? It’s not like you have to make a plain text website, you can use CSS and make it orders of magnitude faster while still looking good.

i’m not complaining, i don’t at all care. just find it an interesting design choice.
The thing is, you can make a good looking website with just CSS and HTML, and a couple manually-written kilobytes of JS. Reddit has decided instead to basically make the whole thing written in JS that populates a blank HTML page, like most modern sites, which means it takes forever to load, has a bunch of useless features no one asked for, and uses 91% of my 11th gen i7 CPU when I do anything on it. It is an absolutely idiotic practice and I have no idea why people think it’s good to have a slow, bloated site that crashes your device if it’s more than a few years old.
Yeah, all the sites I write are mostly CSS and HTML with some manually-written JS sprinkled in where needed. Some of these modern sites are literally a blank page that gets populated with JS. It’s multiple megabytes large, really slow, full of bugs, and unnecessarily resource-intensive.
Why does that happen?
There are now many front-end JS frameworks that make work easier for developers in exchange for speed, space, and resources. More and more corporations are finding they can make more money and spend less money if they have their devs use the frameworks to complete the websites more quickly. This is a trend that has gone beyond just web development. Corporations wanted their employees to write desktop apps faster, so they made Electron, the bane of my existence. Essentially, it is a website bundled with a Chromium browser (open-source version of Chrome). Discord uses Electron, for example. This means that to install Discord, you also have to install the browser, and deal with Chromium’s immense resource usage as well as that of the JS-filled website it loads, just to chat with your friends and read your emails. It’s absolutely idiotic, but as long as we have capitalism, corporations will cut corners to exploit the working people even more.

Couple questions: If Ukraine is such a terrible warzone, where cities are being leveled and fighting is intense all over, how are all these world leaders popping in for a visit? And uh, d-did we just declare war on Russia? What does “military support” mean?
I have no reason to believe it, but people like Alex Christophorou have the theory that they met in some place like Poland, take the train to Kiev and then the show and pictures are taken there, just to return to the safety of NATOstan after. I mean, is it really a far fetched theory? With all the green screen put out by Zelensky, it wouldn’t surprise me.
I do not believe that Zelensky is in Ukraine, and I think he hasn’t been for a while. But even so, Nancy Pelosi, one of the most important people in the US government, just randomly popping up in Europe unannounced tells me something big is being discussed behind closed doors.
Yeah that’s a little suss…hopefully it’s just part of her yass queen slay lib virtue signaling, like when she tore the Trump paper thing. It could be nothing.
Also military support could just mean more guns, ammunition, training, intel, etc. and although this seems redundant as we already do that we also already provide economic and (cherrypicked) humanitarian support so 🤷♂️

lol yes. those tiny little ones will be monsters long after i’m dead. they grow their first arm around 75 years i think. the one with the red flowers is in 2.5x0.5m circle I built out of logs. I use it like a raised planter. There are a bunch of beautiful plants in there :) I live in the desert, they’re happy

I had an argument with a ‘capitalism breeds innovation’ bro and when I asked them if the reverse could be true, meaning that innovation that hurts certain branches of capital will be surpressed, he suddenly looked confused.
Defending capitalism is just so full of flaws that I wonder how these people can even believe themselves.
The same goes for ‘efficiency’ while billions of dollars get spend on advertisements, lobbying, avoiding taxes etc. For once I just want to have a capitalist defender walk through all point they mention just to see where they will end up.

If you want some examples to give strength to your argument:

look at green energy. It is for the better of society that we all transition to renewable energy yet current oil and energycompanies try everything they can to slow this process.

farming of cattle. Cows are a really big producer of methane gas. Innovation for the better of society would mean reducing the amount of cows kept for the meat and diary industry. Innovation that is happening now, in favor of this industry, is giving cows mask to captured their burbs so that gas output gets captured. It does not tackle the problem the large amount of cattle brings.
There are more but people tend to are the point after you mention these two.
Another huge one: planned obsolescence.
Yeah, they’re innovating alright. Innovating new and fantastical ways of completely wasting resources and people’s time.
If they have planned obsolescence; then they know exactly how fsr they can push a tech til a new one is necessary. Why is it better and an improvement under capitalism to drip feed innovation to its apex?

Twitter is so compromised that it’s not even funny. The minute something about Epstein or Maxwell starts trending, it “disappears” from the tab and then a “fact check” gets wheeled out that explains why it’s fruitless to talk about it. I’ve been watching WW2 documentaries on Netflix with lunch, it’s interesting to see where bias and omissions and lies come into play with what little I already know about the war and all its facets. They’re not the worst bias-wise but there is a hint of “hey I mean a lot of Nazis were just honorable everyday people amiright? Now the communists on the other hand, well…” and “on this tragic, terrible, heart wrenching, horrific, fucked up piece of shit evil stain of a day in human history 4,251 brave epic hero American soldiers died valiantly. Oh and yeah the Soviets lost 3 million that one month but anyways” but it’s just a hint and tolerable enough compared to what I’m used to.
Also I know it’s libshit but goddamn most of the OG 20th century fascists are really not that incredibly different in demeanor and personality from most of the Trumpist American fascists. Like these depraved fragile-ego LARPers would be right at home in the suburbs with a blue-line Punisher skull sticker on their F150s. Just a nice reminder that the OG Nazis weren’t all that they projected.
Other than that I’ve been using this new information organization software called Obsidian that’s pretty neat after I pushed through the “I hate trying new things” phase.
I love Obsidian. Maybe it even will help me overcome procrastination but that’s yet to be seen. Right now I use it to archive articles that catch my attention and GitHub gists. But I’m planing on using it to write my masters thesis.
As an update I have essentially used it to make a Wikipedia-esque thing for a world me and my friend are making for a videogame. And it is very awesome. I used to love Microsoft Word and then Google Docs but this might be my new thing once I fully settle in and learn all the formatting and stuff (aliases were really hard for me to get to work for some reason). Good luck on your thesis, I know secondhand how insane those behemoths are!!!

I even saw one source trying to spin it by saying that Uyghurs were once a majority, but now make up only half of the province’s population. Not really, although I wasn’t considering that. I think it will be the case because sooner or later the nuclear war threat will be at a high point again, just as it happened during the cold war. The UFO craze was fed by the US MIC in order to both cover their military research and development run in secret and to help build the cultural red scare of the second half of the 20th century. It was a part of cold war propaganda. With a world view where the aliens are hostile and want to destroy America, the “other” was built. Then, the jump to otherize the Soviets was easily made.
Obviously, I’m not saying it was aliens. But it was aliens.
I mean, it was just one of the fronts of the cold war, but it got so entrenched in western culture that nowadays there is very rarely any cultural expression in which space visitors aren’t just the US but in space fighting the real US or the World™. All aliens are hostile, murderous, and the other.
Hell, even in one of the only american movies I’ve seen in which extraterrestrials don’t want to destroy humanity they are used to print scare in the audicence. To make them fear China, or peace, or peace with China. Cultural expression gets feedback from social anxieties.

And with the fall of the Soviet Union Hollywood ran out of powerful declared enemies, thus we get movies like Independence Day, where the threat is won over very easily. And now, engaged in a second Cold War, the enemy of the United States is a peer competitor (China), and the old enemy (Russia). Thus, the plots are about heroism and liberal bs, and you have Marvel to fill that whole. But there are still aliens, so we come full circle.
TL;DR: Cold War 2.0 propaganda. That is, if it doesn’t heat up. Like, nuclear hot.
