I’m not sure if it’s just me but the Skip site seems to have been based on supernatural versions of UN, FBI, ISA, NATO and simmilar organizations (yeah there are some KGB or “against the system” inspired ones but they are usually portrayed as incompetent or evil).
And that’s only if you are aware of the constant prowestern propaganda, explicit and implicit. They also have managed to make very difficult for new users to create official skips for they favour old and renowned creators (some of them having enough free time to make exhausting 30 page issues every week) over anyone else thus having a higher control of this supposedly shared multiverse.
I’m asking because it could be awesome if there are enough users like you, who have wanted to share their ideas there but they didn’t succeed as expected or are getting tired of that community slowly becoming a shell of its past self, a personal opinion, or just are tired of some aspects of that community and want to be part of a “descentralised” fiction project. Anyway not everything has to be related to politics and global issues, so having a place like that could be something, besides memes, that could alleviate the ongoing pains of living with liberals.
TL,DR: Would you be part of a left “SCP” like community?
If you think there’s a better community where to post this please let me know, and I’ll remove this one.
I do agree that projects like the SCP Wiki do unfortunately tend towards favouring editors with a lot of free time.
But I’m a bit confused by the first two paragraphs.
Most writers tend to write the organizations who know about SCPs as morally grey at best, and downright evil at worst. And this usually includes the Foundation and the UNGOC
But still, maybe it’s just my perception, there’s usually a white saviour complex embedded in the Foundation or GOC to name a few, thus they are justified evils in most skips and even “heroes”, or am I missing something?
Well, there are many early articles which were definitely written from the plain perspective of “Foundation good, anti-Foundation bad”, but you also have to keep in mind that most articles are written from the perspective of Foundation, UNGOC, or other organization’s personnel, so obviously they’re going to portray themselves as being the “good guys”
I’m sorry if my post seemed like we need to portay the Foundation as evil more often, it is more that the most relevant GOIs in that multiverse are based on Western equivalents, especially American ones. I know this is mainly due to the SCP community itself being more prevalent among American users and creators, but it could be nice having a separate fiction project where most organizations’ HQs aren’t located on America or imperial core regions. It’s just an idea, if most people find this attempt absurd or pointless there’s no problem, at least I stated my opinion.
Facility located in Siberia
No, I think your post was clear. I’m just personally not sure how a left SCP wiki would really work. I don’t know how a “socialist Foundation” or equivalent would look like. But I wish you the best of luck on getting started, if other people are also interested.
You’d probably have to get a different head cannon entirely. Because D class exists.
This is a good point I almost forgot, sometimes I feel it could be more human if only those who believe in a sacrifice for a “greater good” were the ones involved in absurd risk experiments instead of neoslaves which could be receiving a more humane or justified punishment in most cases. Besides the fact that, especially in earlier skips, D Class personnel tend to be wasted on silly and unnecessary tests.
To be fair, SCP foundation wouldn’t be itself if it wasn’t for the necessary-evil borderline-dystopian organization it makes of itself. Like, you contain creatures that could destroy or terrorize entire humanity and can effectively affect the reality as we know it. Protocols that seem absurd, morality set aside, and clearing memory of anyone who can know too much, it’s all perfectly synthesized together. An objectively-good moral organization attempting to save humanity from anomalous specimen cannot compare as it’s an idealistic image, ever more so that SCP is a horror-oriented community.
Also no level of writer mental gymnastic would explain a high ammount of people testing subjects and sacrificing themselves merely for some “greater good”
Also D class people don’t have to be prisoners, they could be from anywhere which the SCP foundation could easily cover up like refugee populations, people from the global south, etc.
usually a white saviour complex embedded in the Foundation or GOC
One of my biggest in-universe issues with the SCP Foundation is that they contain literally everything that’s vaguely “supernatural”. If an entity doesn’t pose a danger to humans, no matter how supernatural it is, who exactly are you protecting by containing it? This wouldn’t necessarily be problematic on its own, but is when you consider that most of their objects seem to possess some degree of intelligence. In that case, don’t they deserve rights? IMO, this is “human supremicist”.
Forget SCP, it’s all of science fiction. Can’t go anywhere without bumping into various propaganda or just dishonest representation of things.
Guys the Spoon is a perfect SCP
Please let this happen, I would join in heart beat!
Note: SCP Foundation Facility is actually located in Siberia And guys, what are your favourite SCPs? Mine are 682, 049 and 106
Nice, they are such classics! I’m not sure which are my favourite ones, but I’d mention 426, 699, 3007, the one that is usually written in green text and 4694.
Toast and flatiron. Nice
Imagine a battalion of undead NKVD soldiers with large spoons terrorizing muricah nazis with the foundation intentionally doing nothing with them and silently saluting at each encounter.
I thought you meant the SCP protocol (you know, for transferring files) in the title and was really confused for a second.
Damn you’re right, I forgot there’s a lot of tech savvies around here. At least the SCP-173 image, aka peanut, might ease the confusion.
Yes! Hell yeah! I love worldbuilding and fictional “scientific” writings, and I’ve been itching to write or roleplay with leftists!
I have a number of writings similar to SCP format already if you want writing samples for onboarding! You can see my favourite works here! and here!
Is there a Lemmy community for this?
Create one!
I’m thinking of something like /c/left_scp or /c/socialistcontainprotect (not sure if the last one exceeds character limit tho).
Or maybe we should ditch the “SCP” name and come up with our very own org name? Especially since then they can’t sue us if this ever gets big. To that end, I’m thinking of something like the “Ministry of the Supernatural”, the “Yāoguài Institute” (Pinyin of 妖怪, Mandarin Chinese for “monster”, “goul”, “demon”, or supernatural entities in general), or the “Bytiye Institute” (Romanisation of бытие, Russian for “being”, “entity”, or “existence”). Thoughts?
@PropagandaBot@lemmygrad.ml, do you have any thoughts? I definitely want you on board if a community gets created!
Russian speaker here, I don’t think Bytie Institute works. For one, it specifically means “existence”, like in that quote (Бытие определяет сознание). At the same time, I think the name should be somewhat more vague and officious. I.e. Central Committee for Extranormal Activities. Or something with Главное Управление in it.
Thanks for your insight!
I’m no expert on law, but I know that SCP stuff is licensed under creative commons, so maybe it could be called the SCP Foundation still. But it might act as beacon for reactionaries.
In any case, I’d love to explore this with you, and we can pm each other.

I’m more worried about trademark litigation than copyright litigation. Even if SCP is creative commons, they most likely still have a trademark on the name.
Can you elaborate?
Honestly a separate org or universe seems like best idea. A “tankie scp” would just get brigaded to no end by the original group but an offshoot into the same genre of fiction that happens to be run by socialists but doesn’t need constant propoganda would attract neutral interest and disillusioned writers from main SCP rather than hatred.
Byitye institute sounds good, IMO. It moreso means reality/existence, but it does also mean entity, so it’s got a nice double meaning considering they deal with each.
My idea is some old Soviet group that got founded in the early 1920s before any others to deal with the occult warfare of the tsarist white army, expanded, kept going in extreme secrecy against Nazi occult magic until the 60s, over which time they encountered a lot of other orgs. Then there’s a paranormal cold war between them and the west, and, now, having split entirely from Russia and self controlling, it’s the most experienced and geographically widespread org by far, trying to manage the politics of a fuckton of other groups that hate both it and eachother, and not letting the world burn.
Also, anyone here know about Mother Horse Eyes? If we were to do a Leftist SCP, I propose we also incorporate some aspects of that series, it sure sent a chill down my spine first time I read it.
Haven’t read an SCP in a while but the World Economic Forum should be a front for the Fifth Church or some other similar spook.
Yuri Andropov’s kidney should be one, can’t think of others off top of my head but this sounds like a fun community that I’d check out

as far as i am aware there is a in-universe soviet/russian group like the scp
A left scp style community should, IMO, focus more on the writing and writing freedoms than being an overt propaganda hub. Any good writing will carry the messages anyhow. Nor, honestly, should it mean that the sort of things the organization does are any more pleasant, watching coworkers get ripped apart rarely is, just more ethical. Trained teams that know the risks instead of random prisoners, easy ways to leave (provided they get memories erased), giving rights to what isn’t threatening but keeping them still secret, etc.
Did anything ever come of this?
