I’m sorry for being rude. I must have been in a bad mood.

I’m not an expert driver, just a careful one. I’ve never had any driver assistance at all and don’t really see the need for them unless you’re distracted while driving.

Like, the only way they’d save my life is if they could avoid a front end collision, getting t-boned, or rear ended. They just seem annoying to me.

It’s fine. I’m just hoping to see less of that kind of response on Lemmy than what shows up on Reddit.

My car can avoid a front-end collision. If it detects you going too fast towards the vehicle in front of you without sufficient braking, relative to their speed and such (it seems to calculate “how long you have to react”, basically), then it does this frantic emergency beep. It’s only ever gotten a sort-of false-positive once. It will also optionally attempt to stop the car if you do not heed the warning. This is all configurable/able to be disabled, as well. It also has lane-keeping, for instance, which I’ve turned off since it’s just annoying and honestly creepy to have the car try to drive itself, even a little bit.

I know we all think we are amazing drivers, but you never know when something might distract you at just the wrong moment., I’ve only ever been in a fender-bender, when I was much younger in ~2002, because I was tired, driving on a highway, and the traffic went from 60-0 in seconds. Car didn’t even need work after that. I just mention this because I’m a pretty careful driver too, but still have had close calls before. Plus with all the reckless drivers/weavers/etc on the road, I’ll take all the help I can get.
