We just moved from a very rural area to a large city and am surprised at all the food delivery/rent-a-bike-or-scooter/ride-share/car-share/random delivery/etc. apps and services that are available. What do you find you get the most use of and most value for money?
My two feet. I am simply amazed by how fucking convenient it is to be able to walk to 15 different restaurants in a 7 minute walk radius. I used to also live in an area where McDonald’s was twenty minutes via car and I can’t go back.
I came here to say the same thing. Not having to jump in a car for every single thing is so so so nice.
I want to grab a few groceries, I walk 3 minutes directly into the store and then directly back home.
Want to go to a restaurant, same thing.
No need to worry about where or how to be park.
Also walking helps me just clear my head rather than the road rage that builds while I’m in the car.
I had a pretty bad leg injury a few years ago and was laid up at my parents’ house for a few months in the suburbs. Doctor’s orders that I couldn’t drive. It absolutely sucked. I couldn’t do anything and was completely reliant on people picking me up or deliveries. I can never go back.
I didn’t have a car in high school and I still think it severely stunted my social development and I didn’t recover it until college. I missed so many invites because I had no way to get there.
And don’t get me wrong, I love my car because I’m an enthusiast, but I don’t want to get into it just to grab a single item from the grocery store.
As someone who also loves their vehicle, I hate the fact that I need one to function in day to day life. I only want to use my car the same way someone with a boat enjoys their vehicle. For fun when I feel like it.
100%. I was always prepared to give up my beloved sportscar for a better world and walkable cities, but that one NotJustBikes video, about how walkable cities are better for car enthusiasts too, made me realize I can just have both.
Hell, imagine if you didn’t need to daily your car, so you could leave it on the jack for six months to do a major mod. It’s literally better for everyone!
Huge benefit people legit forget about. If you order on an app you’re probably buying cheap food marked up from a chain. You go out for a walk you find that hole in the wall teriyaki place that ends up being your go to for years.
If the building sucks then you know it’s good, because they’re surviving on food quality alone. Completely agree, I’ve got a place like that that I’ve gone to for over a decade.
