I’ve always been a lurker, but now seeing lemmy’s growth, I figured I would like to contribute somehow.
Would becoming a mod be a good way to do it? How? What does it take to be a good mod?
I’d like to know about that as well! Plus, given the relatively small size of some Lemmy communities, I’m sure it’ll be way easier than being a mod on their Reddit counterparts.
You can contribute as mod.
The general gist of being a mod is to check for rule violations of the sub your modding in and the general unspoken rules obviously that everyone knows ( no racism, insults and so on)
You also shouldn’t act on your thinking and more based on these rules.
Being a good mod is probably more about restraint and calm than it is about being a stickler for rules. Because you will get called named and threatened at some point.
This is also my first time being a mod, but for a small community, doesn’t seem so bad so far. Take this advice with a huge grain of salt, I’m also a newbie:
-
Be a mod for a topic you actually care about and can contribute to
-
Delete any comments/posts that break the rules on your community
That’s… kind of it? I haven’t actually had to delete anything on my community yet, but it is tiny, so that’s probably a factor.
