    If we’re being realistic, the amount of materials that comprise every sattelite we’ve ever launched is a drop in bucket compared to the production of literally any kind of terrestrial vehicle. Not to mention that the rockets take up orders of magnitude more resources than the satellites themselves (which is still comparatively small since there really haven’t been that many rockets compared to things like, you know, cars and planes). Overall this really just seems like a gimmick, not really relevant for sustainability. Funding and effort could be much better spent on developing renewable materials for things here on Earth, or if you want to keep it in space, on fighting space junk which actually a major problem with sattelite launches.

    It only surprises me that they do not use bamboo instead of wood, it would be much more suitable and sustainable.

    This will be effective as a publicity stunt since the public and most journalists don’t have the scientific basis to see through its stupidity.
