I’d add that you should bring a flashlight if you’re out in the wilderness! Having a reasonably powerful dedicated light source could save your life if you do happen to get lost. No need to get some crazy expensive flashlight, but try to get something pretty bright. Keep it on the small side so you’re more likely to take it with you.
Also, if you get lost, try to stay in one place. It makes S&R much easier if they’re not chasing you around all over the place. There are exceptions to this (e.g. you need to run from something actively dangerous), but this was the general rule I was always taught.
