In Lemmy my user is @arne@posta.no. Is there a reason for this double usage of @?
I would like to suggest that we start using tilde (~) as the prefix for usernames just to make it a bit more readable.
Meaning my username would be ~arne@posta.no

I believe it’s more confusing to less technically inclined people though, since @ is used when adressing a server in a community as well.
So I’m afraid it’s something that will hinder adoption. The advantage of the ~ strategy is that it feels more like something like email, as well as having the whole unix homage.
Sure, but it’s kinda late now. We’re not going to break federation with non-lemmy software just for this.
And anyway I’m really not sure what you mean “addressing a server in a community”.
If someone wants to talk about lemmy.ml, they just say “lemmy.ml”
