    i got excited when i saw the purple gem. my first thought was some angel dev had made a FOSS version of Obsidian, one of my favorite markdown editors. I also use MarkText, ghostwriter, Atom, and Mousepad, too, though - each has its place.

    I agree about avoiding github - if that was your point. Github is free and easy enough now, but Microsoft (who owns it now) could turn into a Twitter or Facebook censor-freak any day they choose. Its only a matter of time. Too many techies have placed all of their eggs in that basket. Not wise.

      Avoiding github is part of it, but one can still create their own delightful sub-list there. It is more the recognition that curated lists can be hosted anywhere on any public or self-hosted code forge.

      Github is turning in a direction where ever more lock-in creeps in, and FOMO is created, and this goes far beyond git + webUI to slowly span the entire software development process. If you are interested in projects that try to break this trend I recommend looking at FedeProxy and their initiative to federate Gitea.
