Seeing how most people here are in the West, has anyone here ever faced any sort of significant public backlash or calling out for openly being communist? Or accused of being a genocide denier when they say that the USSR death toll was exaggerated or that China isn’t killing Muslims? To the point, has anyone been denied jobs or opportunities, or otherwise faced real life repercussions in the West because of this?

The accounts I use on Lemmy, both this one and my main one on lemmy.ml can be tied back to my real name and identity, which worries me as someone living in anticommunist Canada, but hiding this part of me and having my main accounts be silent on this feels wrong, especially since real people are being harmed by Western propaganda. Plus, I already used accounts tied to my identity for this so the cat’s kind of out of the bag.

I’m not really worried I’ll be arrested or assassinated for this, obviously, but since I’m a university student with no work experience, my worry is that I won’t be able to get a job because of my political views and support myself.
