I’m pretty sure the west’s goal is to conquer and then balkanize Russia. They can’t go out and say that, so they just pretend like their goal is something else while they take ownership of Ukraine’s industries.
Imo they really did think they were going to accomplish it. Turn the ruble to rubble, defeat the Russian military with a flood of NATO weapons, unite the global south in sanctions, etc.
It’s wishful thinking now, but I believe the west misjudged how powerful they were after decades of blowing up guerrilla fighters and civilians.
Oh yeah I’m sure they thought they’d blow and Russia would collapse like a house of cards, and didn’t even bother thinking up a plan b. Now they’re entering the find out phase of fucking around an finding out.
