Download Vimium-FF for Firefox. The Hacker's Browser. Vimium provides keyboard shortcuts for navigation and control in the spirit of Vim. This is a port of the popular Chrome extension to Firefox. Most stuff works, but the port to Firefox remains a work in progress.
Very useful and pleasant to use. You almost don’t have to move your fingers out of the keyboard with this extension.
Tridactyl has an “escapehatch” option which lets you use a binding on any Firefox-protected page and it takes you to the closest non-protected tab.
That way if you ever need to get back to Vim/command mode just use the binding and it’ll do the magic no matter what tab you’re on
Yeah, it’s like that for security reasons. They block extensions from interacting with about:* pages, so that an extension can’t prevent you from uninstalling it or stuff like that.
A somewhat crappy workaround would be to set your newtab-page to a webpage, e.g. your search engine’s webpage or some local HTML-file.
I’ve only tried Vim Vixen. Anyone know how the two compare?

Does Vimium? No extensions should work on the about:* pages…

Hmmm, not as far as I can tell.
