Some people say he’s a shill who cares more about sponsorship money than actually giving good tech advice. I can see where they’re coming from, but honestly I think he’s one of the least “shill” tech channels. He’s even made sponsors really mad by giving them bad reviews and has even had sponsors refuse to pay for “product showcase” videos because he wouldn’t say what they wanted.

But at the end of the day, he has that perfect combination of being company friendly while talking about a lot of underground tech things, for example RISC-V.

      I think Linus is legit.

I really appreciated Linus’s coverage of RISC-V and its actual benefits and use cases. Other tech YouTubers would have been like “What? I can’t run the Instagram app on this?! It’s trash!”

Yeah, although he’s not the most technical guy, at least he’s not like unbox therapy and their Librem review. Linus seems to care what he’s talking about.

What happened in Unbox Therapy’s Librem review?

But yeah I stopped watching Unbox Therapy because you can clearly tell which videos are sponsored because they’re the ones where he doesn’t nitpick the most insignificant things.

He got amazed by very basic things, is like your uncle trying to explain how Windows works.

Yeah he explained the kill switches but besides that, he doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about witch makes it a little uncomfortable to watch for me.

That’s better that what I was expecting. I thought he’d bash it for being “too” privacy centered and “inconvenient” for him and say “the people who use this phone are probably password stealing cybercriminals” or something. From a cursory glance at what tech stuff he likes, he doesn’t seem to care about or even understand the point of privacy oriented devices.

That would be too much lol.

But yeah at least we should appreciate that he understands the value of privacy. Still I wouldn’t watch his contents.

Theres definitely a lot of advertising in this video.

True, but I personally think he’s one of the most objective large youtubers out there. Usually the ad spots are not related to the topic of the video, which is actually a good thing.

I can see people branding him a shill for that. Most people would take on sponsors in his position. I think his reviews are still pretty logical.
