I plan to watch another Soviet film but I might go for a Chinese one instead. Still haven’t watched Lightyear… yet. Also, I plan to watch the Spanish show El Cid since I heard good things about it but we’ll see how that goes.

Discussion questions:

  1. What TV shows are the best ones you’ve watched in the current decade?

  2. Are there any unpopular or middling movies or TV shows that you like that most people don’t?

My answers?

I haven’t watched any TV shows or dramas this year, but I can say that, in terms of “unpopular opinions,” I tend to consider the Hannibal TV show to be the best of the 2010s.

Also, shameless plug-in for a Discord server that me, BayArea415, and some good friends created:

Enjoy!

It’s actually been awhile since I sat down and watched a movie with an intention of watching it. So the most recent one I’ve seen would be catching Punisher (2004 one) on the telly. As well as a few snippets of the Expendables 2 (also on the telly).

The latter actually got me thinking again on a theory that I saw once - that the wave of blockbusters in 1980-90’s, the wave that made Schwarznegger, Stalone et al famous worldwide, came about as a reaction (cope even) to the Human Rights movements of 1960-70’s, plus the losses of pro-NATO forces in Africa and Asia. This is probably not the best thread for an in-depth discussion of this idea, but just wanted to throw it out there for the comrades.

Don’t think I even watched any shows recently. The few I’ve started (like Resident Alien) I have not finished. Either just don’t have the patience to go through it, or find them uninteresting.

Rocketeer. It’s a somewhat naive 90’s faux-retro adventure movie. It does have its sins - being US-centric, wanking “superior US technology!!!” and having Nazis apparently dreaming of nothing else but destroying USA. But I’ve watched it as a kid and spent several week running around with an empty sportsbag, pretending to be Rocketeer. Aside from my cousin, never met anyone who even watched it. Still holds a soft spot in my heart.
