I think it’s more indicative of how absurd 60° celsius is that it seems like it must be Fahrenheit.
This announcement doesn’t have anything to do with cryptocurrencies or nfts. I’m not sure if I like the idea yet either, but please don’t conflate it with all that other scammy nonsense.
“authoritarianism isn’t real” is the funniest take I’ve heard this year. I suggest you take a break from the internet.
This seems pretty clearly AI-written. Which I suppose isn’t inherently an issue except that this takes a single thought (“AUR has more packages than NixOS”) and stretches it out to multiple paragraphs without adding any additional value. Why do this? A lemmy post doesn’t need to look like a blog post from some tech company. Just state your thought or ask a question and post it. This format does nothing but waste the time of readers.
kinda, the “were” actually comes from old Germanic “wer”, meaning “man”. Werewolf just means “man wolf” lol. So I suppose a warehouse could be a human who turns into a house at full moon
it is, actually; your argument is a whataboutism, which is logically fallacious
As a user of the GNU Guix operating system, and a big fan of the GNU Emacs editor…
yeah, you’re completely right. Linux is a perfectly apt name.
yeah, Guix is great. I tried to use NixOS for a while but I couldn’t get over how much I dislike Nix as a language. Scheme is way way better imo. Guix definitely isn’t as polished Nix given its lower number of users but it’s still a very pleasant experience.
I wouldn’t say Rust is that easy to learn. You can get the basics pretty quickly, but it feels a bit frustrating until you get over the initial learning hurdle. Extremely satisfying language though, I strongly recommend it.
Yeah, that’s a good point. The USSR was most definitely at a disadvantage compared to the other countries at the time due to circumstances outside its control.
I’m not sure why you think USSR having lower GDP than western nations is some kind of a gotcha here
I’m just not sure I’d consider economic growth to be the most important factor when the overall GDP was lower than other countries. Maybe its economy could have far surpassed the capitalist countries given time, or maybe it would have stagnated at a much lower point - there’s no way to know. Which is why I don’t think this graph proves very much.
I agree that Communism is better than Capitalism. I didn’t say otherwise. Source is the same as the original poster’s.
This graph seems misleading if I’m reading it correctly. This shows the relative rate of growth is faster than other nations. But I’m not even sure how that works because the results vary wildly according to the range of years you filter. Either way, the actual GDP per Capita for the USSR was lower than basically every developed nation throughout its history.
Nothing about Monero’s structure makes it more eco-friendly than bitcoin. However, Oxen is a PoS (and thus eco-friendly) cryptocurrency built on Cryptonote, making it have almost all the same privacy features of Mondeo.
Keepass XC and Syncthing is exactly what I do and it’s been amazing.
LessPass and Spectre are really bad ideas. They sounded cool to me too until I thought about it more.
If your password for one site is compromised, you can’t change it, ever, which is already a dealbreaker. Moreover, the algorithm for creating the password is very fast - which means that if someone finds out your password for one service, they can brute force your master password extremely fast relative to other password managers. And they don’t even need access to your vault. Keep in mind, I’m not a security expert at all so I might be wrong about this.
Bitwarden and Keepass XC are the only password managers I recommend because attackers need access to your vault/database to be able to crack anything, and the cryptography used is intentionally slow as to make brute forcing less practical. The most ideal is to self host or use an offline database like Keepass does, which makes the risk of your database being compromised practically zero unless you’re some high profile target.
I found it from the Privacy Guides “social news aggregators” page. It describes Lemmy as a fediverse-compliant Reddit alternative, which sounded really appealing to me. I joined pretty quickly after that.
Edit: looks like they removed it a couple of days after I posted this lol. I guess that makes sense, given PrivacyGuides is meant explicitly for tools that are designed for privacy, supporting encryption and such. Any social media doesn’t really fit that. You can see the discussion that lead to its removal here.
That’s annoying. But either way it will get removed soon. Youtube clients aren’t allowed on the play store.
It’s not a “QAnon-esque conspiracy theory”. Russia’s online influence in American politics has been fairly well documented. That being said, I think it’s somewhat unhealthy to assume everyone who says something controversial is dishonest or a troll. Not good for discourse.
