Kasparov is to chess what Bobby Fischer was to chess: an unapologetic, greedy, stark raving mad nazi. It is a bit weird that there are several of them.
Maybe I’m reaching here but is it because it’s rigidly structured, based on a monarchy, it’s about war and people tend to associate it with high class and IQ. Not saying it’s inherently reactionary or that most people who play it are Fascist or anything, but I can see a few things that would reinforce the idea that hierarchy and high IQ is more important. Just my 2 cents, nobody can know for sure tho
I don’t think the association to monarchy has much to do with it. The names of the pieces come from a time of monarchs but I doubt that anyone on any side of the political spectrum is reading much into it these days. The association to high IQ and being “high class” or “civilized” will probably draw nazis like flies to shit though.
