If you are one of the KDE Connect fan, and was waiting for iPhone+KDE Plasma integration, then good news for you. The KDE Team announced that the popular KDE Connect applications is now available as iPhone app.

It’s in Beta test phase using TestFlight and everything is not yet fully functional. I got my device connected and could push clipboard contents from the phone to my Linux computer (but not yet from PC to phone), but much of the other functionality is not yet there. And of course being Apple, it seems to disconnect whilst in the background.

But great thing is it is in Beta and things are happening!

It’s gotten less resource-intensive within the last few years

KDE certainly uses more resources than leaner desktop managers, but you can tweak things like turning off some animations etc. But you can also run various of the KDE apps such as DigiKam, KDEnlive, etc without installing the whole KDE desktop. Maybe try that as an option first.

this is what i found after looking into it a bit more. some of those apps actually look sort of useful, but i am mostly at the command line. in terms of window management, does KDE play well with outside libraries or are your options mostly tied down to KWin? thanks for the feedback, might be joining the KDE gang soon! also looking at sway, not sure how mature it is yet though.

Right now the actual features are very limited and still being expanded on eg. you can push clipboard content from the phone to the PC, but not yet the other way. My use case is 99% from PC to phone.

Well it is good that they are trying to reach wider. Unfortunately iPhone limitations (self-inflicted by Apple) will greatly limit its potential. It is a killer app on Android.
