Yep. Not only the title, serpentza’s videos in general are pretty blown up. A lot of what he says has a true kernel, but he’s pretty aggressively against the CCP. Basically someone repeating western propaganda and talking about China’s propaganda. Quite fun to watch most of the time.

Not really. He made two documentaries about how diverse and culturally interesting China is. They’re called “Conquering Southern China” and “Conquering Northern China”. He always shows the beautiful and good sides of China but he likes to inflate his negative experiences on his YouTube channel since it gets him more clicks.
He isn’t spreading FUD so much as he’s making the negative experiences and some negative things the CCP does bigger than they really are. Sure, he’s getting money, but he’s also getting a lot of useless hatred by people not speaking English very well.
Ah, fair enough, thanks for the documentaries, they look interesting. My only experience with him was this video and those Reddit comments, so sorry if I had a wrong vision about him.

I can really recommend watching his channel. You have to watch a few videos to get his personality, but then you find out he provides a really unique view and explanations of Chinese culture which really made me appreciate China a lot.
Most people who really hate him are Chinese nationalists. Sure, he’s also doing a bit of propaganda and often blows his experiences out of proportion, but you can easily filter through that if you speak English well.
He always differentiates between the CCP and China and “the Chinese”, where he always stresses that there’s not the stereotypical Chinese person, but that there are many regions with many different cultural identities and interesting people and places to visit.

- Serpentza’s opinion on wealth gaps in China.. Watch that whole video BTW, they both say really racist stuff against latinos too.
- An overview of Serpentza by Daniel Dumbrill.
- Defends another another sexpat english teacher in China who raped and murdered someone, and hand-wrings that it will cause more hatred of foreigners.
- Claims that China “isn’t safe”
- Serpentza claims chinese ppl are so poor, that they eat rats.

Yeah, watch the whole video. Maybe try to understand that living “above” people is not a positive thing. The comments below are painting a clear picture on what kind of subreddit GenZedong really is.
