These are beautiful but it feels weird the lack of people in them. I can see a few people and vehicles if you zoom in but the emptiness of the streets in every image is surreal to me. Like, where is everyone? Did they just take these at a very specific time when there’s just hardly one out and about?

That’s a good point actually. I forget how much better other countries were at actually implementing and following it.
In some countries it is customary for public television to ask citizens to stay inside while they take pictures, to avoid interruptions or unplanned events.
A written notice by Saarland’s public television: “We are filming the beauties of your town today. Please remain within your houses.”
The streets were probably cleared out for a military parade or something like that.
