They all trying to get away from that flaming mess of “x”?
edit wait wtf, this is from 8 months ago… whys it in my hot feed?
Old posts from up to a year ago have randomly started showing up in my feed and it’s starting to drive me insane. I believe all you need to do to bump a post is to edit it. I have no idea why this would ever need to be a feature in Lemmy, though.
Yeah I’ve noticed my feed is all old posts the last couple of days
I think its a bug with old versions of lemmy?
That’s what i was thinking. A drawback with the ferdiverse. I guess one could message their admins to update the instance.
edit: that being said, i feel like beehaw is diligent about everything, so i wouldn’t be surprised if this is a new bug.
Sounds like a bug in lemmy. You should check here and if there isn’t one, make a new bug: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues
I just wish the ferdiverse wasn’t so hard to wrap your mind around. Once you get it, it’s simple, but at first it’s like what?
Any of the Lemmy instance admins noticed an uptick in registration on their instances? I had a few more during the initial media reports, but it has quieted down again. For now I guess only Mastodon and maybe Pixelfed are getting the Twitter refugees? I initially thought the general Fediverse media coverage would have a broader effect.
I noticed a few more on fapsi.be. But most of them were not able to write a proper application.
given that some outlets conflate Mastodon with the Fediverse, it doesn’t surprise me that it’s the main service where the uptick is noticeable. people probably won’t start signing up to Pixelfed en masse while Instagram is still there.
According to the main Pixelfed developer it did see a big increase in users though. I guess typical Twitter users are less interested in platforms like Lemmy that prioritize sharing 3rd party links and group comments over self-promotion like Twitter/Instagram do.
Well, also that they’re looking for a twitter replacement and not a reddit replacement. It’s not that they’re generally annoyed with the mechanics or format of twitter, but they’re looking for an alternative to its current leadership and direction.
But I suppose them being on Mastodon and therefore being exposed more to interoperable Fediverse platforms could give more causal exposure to PixelFed/Lemmy/PeerTube/etc.
7 million registered users! 💖
2 weeks later – 8 million!
It’s a crazy time with the massive influx of people.
The massive influx of users makes me want to go back, but I can never get used to how 1:1 twitter it is. It’s infinitely better than other options, but it carries so many of twitter’s questionable design decisions that I always end up feeling gross and deleting a new account after a while.
This sudden spike seems kind of suspicious. From the comments that I’m reading on the Fediverse two explanations stand out. First explanation is that the Twitter bots are moving to Mastodon. The second is that reports have surfaced that lots of Twitter employees are quitting because of Twitter 2.0 and that this initiates a new Twitter migration to Mastodon.
Yes, we gotta see some breakdown what instance those users are registered in. So far (last day or so), I see lots of accounts of moderate size from twitter creating an account on mastodon “in case twitter dies”
I personally haven’t noticed the influx. Maybe they don’t know how to type.
the instance I’m on keeps parping out on me today, so I definitely do notice it.
I think it’s so good!
