Yeah. That seems about right for techbros. Hacker News is a fucking cesspool. Imagine drawing an equals sign between Hitler and Stalin, or Mussolini and Castro. And of course “well Bush isn’t that bad 'cause he only went after other countries” rhetoric (spoiler alert: Bush did not, in fact, only go after other countries).

It shouldn’t be acceptable to glorify neither of: Hitler, Franco, Mussolini, Mao, Stalin, Fidel, Guevara, Hussein, Pinochet, Ceaucescu, Gaddafi, etc.
My point is that authoritarian murderers are authoritarian murderers no matter their political affiliation and should not be glorified. You can be against one extreme without supporting the other.

Too many people to list.
Although I’d say the tag kind of fits, but Bush is in another category. All the people I mentioned had in common the persecution, imprisonment and execution of their own people at a massive level and maintained power by force. Bush went after other countries and was voted out in the end.

One time I was out in town doing outreach for ACORN I was approached by a libertarian software engineer who was convinced that all political and social issues could be solved via coding. Techbros are insanely overwhelmed with Anglo white man majority, and so their political beliefs also align that way. Anglo white woman, in the name of feminism, will not solve anything either.
What will solve this problem is decentralisation of tech industry to countries other than Anglosphere, where other countries have significant dominance.
West is increasingly appointing Indians as CEOs either to solve their problems, or use Indian puppets to counteract the global image of white man dominance, and to counteract the influence of China and Russia having more impartial tech industry without the need to fake PR.
I am constantly seeing Tiktok bashing in West, and my conspiratorial take is that Facebook is telling US media to do it so that they can capitalise on Tiktok market, the way they attempted (and failed) with Instagram Reels. Apple also did it with Huawei, so it might not be surprising. USA wants to keep the white man techbro dominance by destroying foreign country competitors, and Europe is happy with it.
