I’m doing a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (fantasy spinoff that revolves around civilizations of Pokemon) roleplay that revolves around the exploitation of “wild” Pokemon by “civilized” Pokemon, and how a wild and civilized pair will team up to become revolutionaries to break the hold of the elite class and the exploitation of the wild Pokemon by civilized Pokemon orchestrated by the elites. Definitely a niche plotline but I’ve enjoyed writing it so far, and I’ve actually not seen any fanfiction taking a leftist perspective of the universe.

Not sure what terms this qualifies as, maybe it doesn’t count as “communist” but more of an “anti-imperialist” revolution. Basically, I’m thinking that the elite class keeps the common townsfolk desensitized of the exploitation of the wild Pokemon’s resources by portraying them as savages, while silencing anyone who tries to speak out. This is based on the fact that the mechanic of the actual games involves rogue-like exploration of randomly generated dungeons, gaining experience points by defeating wild Pokemon and finding items. I’m thinking that one civilized Pokemon becomes aware of the truth and tries to form a secret coalition of both wild and civilized Pokemon in order to overthrow the elite.

My questions are: is this realistic? I’m assuming the exploited society would be pretty quick to jump on the revolution? However, in an imperialist relationship between two societies, even if the imperialism was being kept secret and many of the common citizens agreed that it was unethical if they found out, how likely are the proletariat/commoner class of the imperialist society to actually join the revolution that’s fighting their own elite? Especially if it means their lives won’t be as privileged anymore if the exploitation stops.

All the famous communist revolutions have taken place in exploited societies instead of the exploiters, so I’m not sure if there’s a real-world reference for how or if this can happen? What kinds of people are the most likely to do so, if they are at all? Should I just switch to the plot being the “wild” pokemon forming a revolution and only a few civilized Pokemon joining in? Am I overthinking this?

I don’t think this goes on the Communism community, but to give my 2 cents, the way you’re describing the oppression reminds more of colonialism than imperialist interference (although both go hand in hand)
