The only thing I know about Lukashenko is whatever was in John Oliver’s piece on him; so absolutely nothing. If y’all can help me out on that I’d be grateful.

Anyway, just saw this on twitter and thought it was very sus.

So she doesn’t even live there anymore??? If she really gave a shit you’d think she’d stay lol was she in fear of her life??

Also people in the replies are contradicting her tweet by saying Belarusians were welcoming the Russian army (they painted this as a bad thing) but then I remember that one guy from the John Oliver segment that said it fucking sucked to have the same leader that long? I’m confused as to how the population feels about Lukashenko, and Putin I guess. Western media claims they have rigged elections but I’m very sceptical of that.

I have no way of knowing if they have “rigged” elections or whatever (which is always rich coming from, say, Americans) but I do know that he won 80% of the vote in the election, so if it isn’t rigged he has an overwhelming amount of electoral support.

Edit: last I heard she was living in Lithuania, but that may not be the case anymore

They don’t need to rig an election, he really have 80% of support consistently for years because he’s about as much based as it is possible to be for the capitalist state leader. It’s just that capitalist core and its periphery have no democracy whatsoever so we tend to view any elections above 40-45% with suspicion.

I mean Doug Ford became premier again even though less than half the provincial population voted so…. Funny how some countries are rigged but others aren’t…
