Al this is known and discuted. Vivaldi is proprietary soft only because 5% of its script respect the UI has a patent, is based on Chromium, or more exact, on its render engine Blink, it’s not a simple Chromium fork like others.
Startpage is proprietary of a advertising company, yes, but this has nothing to do, that it is one of the most privacy protecting search engine, as youself can test in the net traffic using Startpage, they are no logs or tracking of any kind, the only because I don’t like so much Startpage is, because it use ads, (context related, not based on profiling or surveillance, no filter bubble risks).
Anyway you can add easily any other search engine you want, see the vid in the blogpost.
