The concluding two paragraphs struck me as very strange. Hefty liberal and imperial bias in this piece.
Am I the only one that hopes for a second Trump term just to accelerate American imperial decline?
I would assume that is in the back of a lot of people’s minds, but a chaotic decline of US power will hurt a lot of people in the world. It is better that a reasonable person is in charge of the USA as they lose their lead so that no disastrous action hurts the US people and the rest of the world.
Unfortunately, it looks like the political system is pretty much designed to keep such people from getting into power as we saw with Bernie.
Yes. Accelerationism doesn’t actually work. It’s a lack of organizing, co-option from the right, and the desperate circumstances of late capitalism which summoned this fascist turn and the bizarre Trump-cult.
A worse situation won’t make someone think any differently when they already have a false consciousness prone to magical thinking.
