/u/nutomic found a bad security bug here where the API was leaking emails. It was my bad. Its fixed now, I’ll try to be more vigilant about emails in the future.

Unpopular opinion: in general emails should be public. Private emails seem like such an antipattern and leak 90% of the time - so why even bother.
In that case spam providers would probably start scraping Lemmy for emails.
