I’m only on a free Proton plan but I’m still considering switching because of recent news. I’ve seen disroot’s website before and they seem more politically left-leaning which I appreciate. How have people’s experiences been?

I have used their email for years without issue.

Don’t choose a service based on politics though. Choose one that supports privacy in the way you need. Proton is advancing the world in privacy in a really great way. That’s what we should be supporting and focusing on. It’s not like a crappy VPN company saying this is what you need to be private. They’re product is proven and we need that to spread if real privacy is ever going to catch on. Put political differences aside and let’s make the world a better place.

They are not mutually exclusive. Privacy is one of the most political issues out there because every fascist/billionare wants control and control requires surveillance. I have not completely given up on Proton because of one man’s statements, but it’s not looking good.

Those statements from the CEO suggest one of two things - naiveté (to think either US party cares about the “little guy” or about privacy and freedom) or cowardice (just sucking up to Trump like every other CEO right now). Neither of which is good for privacy or freedom because to achieve either, you need both awareness and a spine to stand up against this shit.

And the fact that no one else from the company or their board or foundation has bothered to jump in and take action means either they’re on board with his statements or too powerless, which again, doesn’t spell good things.

“Put politics aside and make the world a better place” is a wild sentence lol. As much as you may want to believe otherwise, we aren’t going to code our way out of political problems.
