I liked Asimov’s critique of 1984. http://www.newworker.org/ncptrory/1984.htm It’s as much criticism of Orwell the person as it is 1984 the book.

He is one of those noble souls who will lament how the whip made him punish the colonial subjects. Those evil whips made him whip the shit out of the poor savages.

On lemmy.ml instance one user was confidently telling me Orwell was a socialist. I asked him why Orwell sold out communists and he went quiet.
