You’d think cryptocurrency would appear more in fiction considering how popular it is irl. So instead of cyberpunk, have cryptopunk? Which sounds like cyberpunk written by a hedge fund manager with 1.5 million in bitcoin irl.
inb4 crypto bros dont read books.
But crypto bros do play video games right?
Not sure if this is the right sub for this, let me know!
There is so much fiction in crypto, that it would seem reasonable to have a little crypto in fiction :P
electronic currencies have been a thing in sci-fi since forever (both state and privately issued) in fact I’m pretty sure satoshi invented bitcoin because they read some sci-fi novel and thought that it should exist you can check the cryptoanarchists mailing list archives to verify this
i could be wrong, but in sci fi books ive read, they basically had credit cards, not cryptocurrency
I searched ‘cryptoanarchists mailing list books’ and didn’t find anything. Link?
Try looking through the archive here https://mailing-list-archive.cryptoanarchy.wiki/
There are plenty of fictional currencies if it’s this what you look for, though mostly not crypto. Just search for “fictional currencies” or “currencies science fiction” or so. I agree, however, with mekhos’ answer if I may say so -:))
all of the ones i found seem to be not decentralized
