I think a major reason is because they’re the one getting the business end of US domestic policy while enjoying the least amount of perks from those policies (see how Hawai’i backrolled a lot in standard of living after the US colonization), because the US doesn’t seem to see Hawai’i as on the same level as the continental states, more like a vassal.
There is also a strong, surviving native culture clinging to life on the island. Many still know the crimes of the US and decry it for its terrors.
Which the US tried (and is still trying) to stamp out, naturally.
And of course they’re the one accusing other countries of “cultural genocide”.
