From a pure biology perspective, it’s been kind of interesting to see this thing evolve. It’s actually pretty consistent with the path that many other diseases take, where it eventually becomes less fatal but more virulent. Probably has to do with how a deadly disease pretty quickly runs out of accessible hosts to infect and burns itself out, so there would be selection pressure against that.
