Don’t be under the perception that this is a bug. They damn well know what they are doing forcing people to download a chromium based browser.
Yesterday I had to install Chromium in my laptop in order to buy a bus ticket online. It didn’t work with Firefox.

I tested the same bus company page later and it seems to work most of the time on Firefox, but not reliably (i.e. the other day it just happened to not work). So apparently, they did test it, just not well enough.
