Except they won’t go much forward. If that was so easy, it would be done long ago, like Poland tried for last decade and went nowhere. Europe deindustrialised and current crisis will make it even more vulnerable. It is even possible to be energy selsfufficent at all? All i can see is returning to coal which will be expensive and it’s not country-on-country based, especially if EU shatters. Also obligatory reminder that EU deemed wood burning not only renewable but also… carbon free.
We’re talking about potentially decades of recession and uncertain target. And as you know capitalism is incredibly inefficient at long term planning.
Nuclear plants are not self sufficient though, even for countries like Germany or France. The chokepoint is just on another resource then.
So it’s possible to be self-sufficient, but not for all.
I would even say it’s not possible for the most of them. I don’t think if any of them have sufficient fossils (mabye Norway?), sun, wind and water won’t suffice to fill the difference in forseeable future.
And all that even before considering the unity of Europe which might as well shatter in this crisis.
Not to mention we don’t live in XIX century anymore, modern industry require many rare resources which aren’t here.
Seems many here wish so. Weak Europe has become a wet dream for many countries who oppose strong western alliances.
They had their chance. Just a single glance on EU tells you it has been made to oppose USA. Many people hoped for that but current year ultimately broken this hope, EU is not opposition to USA, it is purely its colony and vassal. Right now EU is actively harmful not only to the world (as imperialist power), but also to their own members. It needs to break.
Ultimately Lenin was right again. In capitalism, any kind of european super-state can only be reactionary.
Hmm, telling the victims of a wrongful act they’re entirely or partially at fault for the harm that befell them. I’m almost positive there’s a term for this.…
