    Whenever I see a poll about Russian public opinion, I think about people like this teacher. How can people have truly formed their own opinions when public debate gets your life ruined, or worse?

      yes!

      whenever ppl try to point out that hey, maybe a state-funded agency directly asking people potentially incriminating questions with serious prison time in the streets (not even accounting for the respondent biases of polling methods themselves), isn’t the most reliable metric to measure something, you get called a paid troll or something

        You could say that for any number of things. LGBTQ people are treated as lesser everywhere, but there’s a pretty material difference between the US or Europe (provides legal protections) and Saudi Arabia (provides death). Just because they are on the same spectrum doesn’t mean they’re comparable.
