To my understanding, neocons are basically Bushites— extremely jingoistic right-wingers who were behind the invasion of Iraq, while a paleocon is a more run-of-the-mill conservative.
If I had to choose, I’d take an isolationist reactionary over an imperialistic reactionary.
The problem with isolationist conservatives is that they don’t actually exist in the US today. The handful of talking head conservatives who are criticizing US adventurism in Ukraine are only doing it to hurt Biden. There will be no serious effort to deconstruct empire coming from the right.
